2006 Mission Statement

Introduction

I recognise that the greatest power I have is the freedom of choice, to consciously and proactively decide the best alternative and most appropriate response to what life puts in front of me.  So, I may either base each decision on the principles and values that I have or simply react to a situation heedless of the result. I alone am responsible for my choices and reactions or responses. 

I accept that yesterday’s choices shape today’s reality, and that today’s choices will affect tomorrow’s outcome.

Health:

For the sake of my health, which I may have neglected in the past, I will seek balance in each area of my life, staying attuned to the needs of my body.  I will nurture myself wisely with healthy food, exercise, rest & relaxation. 

I will plan my schedule with discipline, to make certain that I exercise regularly, but with sufficient flexibility that I enjoy it and build it into an integral part of my life. 

I will be accountable to myself for my improvement physically, emotionally and spiritually, so that I become more spiritually connected and aware of my wellbeing. 

Intellectually and Academically: 

I will continually challenge myself in learning and expression, to contribute intellectually to the academic and artistic world. I will nurture my individuality, and move forward with accomplishments, by planning, preparing, and realising the goals which I establish.  

As a writer, I will strive to become an expert in my field, with written accomplishments, for the improvement and setting standards in corporate law.  I will write with integrity and independence, to influence and inform students, practitioners and academics.  I will teach others the value of research and communication skills through example.  And eventually, I will venture into other genre of writing, studying it if necessary to fulfil that dream. 

As a life long student, I will improve my knowledge through consistent and dedicated study, whether academic, spiritual, or general life principles.  I will endeavour to expand my knowledge and awareness of life by exposure to new thoughts, ideas, people and places. 

Relationships

I will build my personal relationships with honesty and integrity as the cornerstone, so that I can contribute to the lives of those close to me, and impact their lives with generosity, respect and wisdom.   I will walk what I talk, setting an example, impacting their lives, while remembering to maintain time and space for me. 

As a daughter, I will respect my parents and their wisdom and graciousness, and learn from them about life and what is precious in it.  I will strive to improve their quality of life and security. 

As a sister, I will endeavour to relate to my brother and sister, and to accept their individuality, without judgement or reproach.  I will nurture and support them as a sibling, if they need encouragement. 

As an aunty, I encourage, foster and nurture their growth and education, striving to challenge my nephews and nieces to find their own courses in life.  I will provide them with security, making sure that I am available to talk with them when they need a friend or someone that they can express their concerns to. 

As a friend, I will choose my friendships wisely and invest my time in those people that I have chosen.  I value the interchange of ideas and goals, and know that we each grow at our own pace and in our own direction, according to the principles and goals we have chosen.  I will have patience and understanding why others choose principles and goals which are different from mine, accepting the individuality of each of us and our right to choice. 

Professionally

As a lawyer, I will inform and prepare clients according to their needs, and continue to provide sound advice, setting standards as an expert in my field.  I will actively contribute, through this advice, to the success of each client’s ventures and help them to build and plan their futures. 

As a leader in my firm, I will act with accountability and ensure that each member of my staff understands their accountability to me, to the client and to themselves.  I will empower them with an environment of learning and expression, where staff can learn the values of independence, teamwork, honesty, loyalty, and client service. 

I will continually strive to maintain my credibility with the staff, by showing wisdom in my decisions which impact upon their lives. As I empower staff, and they begin to realise their potential, I will delegate tasks and responsibilities to them, which provide them with meaning.  I will commend merit and assist personal growth and self-sufficiency.
